Just about everyone seems to have loved Mickey Mouse at some time in their life. After 83+ years, his recognition doesn't seem to have waned a bit. Capitalize on his popularity and create a special Mickey Mouse birthday party for that all important 1st birthday. Make it memorable, exciting and personal. Here are a few ideas to turn this familiar theme into a special event:
INVITES
Keep it simple and use Mickey's famous ears as inspiration. Cut out of black card stock or construction paper his ear shape. Write out the party info using a silver or gold gel pen.
INEXPENSIVE COSTUME OPTION
Have everyone come dressed in their favorite Mickey shirt or hand them out as guests arrive. These will add to the theme, decor and make for fun photos. Mom and Dad need to at least wear Mickey ears, if not the full attire. Imagine the great photos as little ones line up to have their pictures taken with Mickey and Minnie.
DECORATIONS
A traditional color scheme dictates the use of yellow, red and blue. A striking color combo would be red and black--my fav. Regardless of what you decide upon, be sure to hang oodles of balloons and streamers throughout the mickey mouse birthday party room to instantly liven it up.
Disney posters on the walls will quickly eliminate blah walls and create a Mickey atmosphere. Hang #1's and various shapes on the walls, all cut out of poster board or construction paper.
Opt for a darling baby Mickey pattern for your party ware rather than a solid for added theme appeal and party pizazz while keeping it at a toddler level.
If you want to capitalize on the red and black, then opt for a tablecloth in one of these colors and a table runner in the other color. Top it off with a centerpiece of a big bouquet of Mylar's tied to a Mickey toy.
A pull-string pinata is a great choice for a game time activity and can also serve as a table decoration during the party.
A well-placed Mickey banner containing a special birthday message is always a welcome addition and keepsake.
Extra-large Mickey decals transform barren walls and can be moved to your child's bedroom walls after all is said and done.
MICKEY CAKE
Make three round cakes; two of which should be smaller (ears). After they've cooled, lay them onto a piece of heavy cardboard covered with foil. Frost the cakes black or cover them with black fondant. Outline Mickey's face or use pieces of fondant to create that perfect mug. Use a picture of Mr. Mickey as a guide.
ACTIVITIES
Bubbles - Hire some teens to put on a bubble show for the little ones. Be sure to have them interact at times with the tots for added enjoyment.
Pin The Ears On Mickey - Just pattern your game after Pin the Tail on the Donkey. All you'll need is a Mickey poster, double-stick tape, and Mickey ear shapes cut from construction paper.
