If your little girl loves everything related to ballet and enjoys a good twirl around the house, she has probably discussed the possibility of having a ballerina party for her next birthday.
As you start to think about various game options to entertain your little ones, you will soon discover there are numerous games that you can adapt easily to a ballet theme. Here are a few ideas to help get you started planning that tutu-clad event:
PIN THE STAR ON THE BALLERINA - Hang a large poster of a ballerina on the wall. Make some crowns out of construction paper, felt, poster board, or card stock and give one to each child to try and pin to the ballerina's head. Double-stick tape works great. You could also adapt this game easily to pin the star on the wand or pin the tutu on the ballerina.
STAR RELAY - Cut out four large stars from gold-colored poster board. Divide your guests into two teams. The first child in each line shall be given two stars to be used as stepping stones. The girls will put a star down, step on it, put the second star down a bit further, step on it, and repeat this process until they arrive to the finish line. At this time, they should then pick up the stars and ballet dance their way back to their team mates and hand-off the stars the next person in line. Whichever team is able to get through all of their team mates first shall be the winners.
HOLD THAT POSITION - This game can be played in rounds, or you can just add up all the points each girl earns for each round and whoever has the most points, at the conclusion of the game, shall be the winner. You will need to line everyone up and have them do various ballet poses. You can demonstrate them, call them out, or hire a teen to show how to do each pose. Whoever holds the position for the longest time shall be the winner. If you are working with young children, it is best to stick with the basic 5 ballet positions. If the kids are a bit older, you will need to challenge them a bit with things like a deep plie', arabesque, developpe, splits, posse, etc.
FREEZE DANCE - Put on some classic ballet music and instruct your little dancers to dance their hearts out. Every now and then, stop the music, at which time all the dancers should freeze. If anyone is caught moving, out of the game they shall go. Whoever is the last dancer who remains on the floor shall be the winner.
TIARA DECORATION ACTIVITY - Make some white card stock tiaras before the ballerina party. Hand them out to your guests and let them decorate the tiaras as they see fit. Provide things like stick-on jewels, pieces of feather boa, ribbons, sequins, mini flowers, and glitter to create their grand tiaras.
